The Little Things to Know About Taiwan

Don’t Drink the Water: The tap water is like the water in Mexico.  You will get sick, and you will get a free tour of Taiwan’s hospitals.  Not even the people from Taiwan can drink the water from the tap. There are several places where you can get drinking water though.  You can go the old fashioned way and buy a cheap plug in tea boiler and boil the water.  There isn’t a need for this however.  All around the campus there are water filters. They look like this.

There are three options: hot water (boiling temperature so be careful!), warm, and cold.  There will also be one or two on your dorm floor.  When you are out and about for the day I recommend filling up bottles to bring with you.  Once you are out, finding drinking water (unless you want to buy it) will be harder.  All the metro stations have safe drinking fountains that look like the ones in the US.  Also, if you see a temple, they will most likely have water filters and bathrooms that are open to the public.
